Robin Roberts spoke for the first time on GMA today about her long-time girlfriend Amber Laign, saying, “She loved me through a very difficult year.”
The GMA anchor, who fought a brave battle against blood cancer after being diagnosed in 2012, spoke with emotion about her holiday vacation to the Turks and Caicos Islands with Laign, 39, saying, “I have never been happier or healthier than I am right now.”
Roberts also told her co-hosts that she and Laign also attended the wedding of Roberts’ niece Judith in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The 53-year-old presenter then showed a family wedding shot which included her girlfriend.
Referring to her Facebook post where she Roberts said: ”My year end post was just full of gratitude and just telling everyone all that I’m grateful for, including my girlfriend Amber who really loved me through a very difficult year and I’m very happy for the support.’
For the past 10 years, Robin kept her romance with massage therapist Laign out of the spotlight, even though Laign has been constantly at her side, until she chose to speak openly about their relationship just before New Year.
Roberts, 53, thanked her girlfriend as part of an end-of-year thank you to fans and family posted to her Facebook, which read, “I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too.”
