Cyndi Lauper started her career in the book world at the same publisher that’s putting out her memoir next month. “My first job was at Simon & Schuster,” the “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” singer said at a women’s-only tea hosted by Hearst Magazines’ editorial director Ellen Levine Thursday. She added: “I lied about my experience to get the job. Now [they’re] publishing my book, so I guess I have a second chance to get it right.” Also spotted were Elle’s Roberta Myers, Food Network Magazine’s Maile Carpenter and Gayle King. Showing she’s better suited for a career in rock, Lauper was dressed in black, with half her nails painted black and half white, and had platinum blond hair with red streaks.
