Luxury Rolls-Royces and the occasional horse and carriage are probably their preferred mode of transportation, but Prince Charles and his wife Camilla decided to go for a spin (one whole stop) on the London subway today.

The royal couple joined transit officials and commuters to mark the 150th anniversary of the Underground, the world’s first subway system.

While the subway system sees 3.5 million journeys a day, it’s been 27 years since the Prince of Wales was last on the tube and the first time the couple made the journey together.

Charles was shown how to swipe his commemorative Oyster (or fare) card as he and Camilla hopped on the Metropolitan line from Farringdon station to King’s Cross.

They, however, didn’t have to battle London’s packed trains as they were given their own carriage for the trip.

Charles seemed to enjoy his little spin, reportedly saying “Just one stop?” when the train came to a stop.

Joking about the lack of passengers he reportedly quipped, “We don’t want to alarm people” and when asked if he’d like to drive the train he said, “I will do as I’m told.”

Charles last traveled by subway in 1986 when he and the late Princess Diana took the tube to Heathrow Airport to open a new terminal.
