Gwyneth Paltrow backtracks on Met Ball slam

A week after saying she’d never go again, Gwyneth Paltrow made a complete U-turn on her negative Met Ball comments.

In this week’s Goop newsletter, Paltrow gushed over one of fashion’s biggest nights.

“The Met Ball, at NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, is always the year’s most elaborate display of incredible fashion and this year was no different,” she started.

“The theme was ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ and when the house of Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri asked me to join them, I was thrilled to see what they would create with my right fashion hand, Elizabeth Saltzman.”

“We got all inspired in the goop office about punk making a comeback through subtle influence and thus, we asked one of my absolute favorite Web sites, the most excellently curated SSENSE, to show us how we could work it into our spring/summer wardrobes .”

The Oscar-winner’s lofty words are a stark contrast to her recent USA TODAY interview.

“I’m never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all,” she sniffed about Anna Wintour’s annual soiree.

“Do you want me to be honest? It sucked. It seems like the best thing in the world. You always think this is going to be so glamorous and amazing and you’ll see all these people. But you get there, it’s so hot, it’s so crowded, everyone is pushing you… This year it was so intense, it wasn’t fun.”

She added, ”I think we’re all a bit too old to dress up punk.”
