Matt Lauer says he loves Rock Center’s Christmas tree in the early morning, when the plaza is empty — but it gets so busy later, he wears a disguise to leave work. “I get [to the studio] at 4:45 a.m., and [the tree is] lit, and it’s actually stunning because you have the place to yourself,” he told reporters at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball. “Then, as the day goes on, it gets a little crazy — and so we wear disguises and duck in and out of cabs,” he joked. Lauer, who has three kids, loves looking at the holidays through their eyes. “I just sit back and watch them marvel at the Thanksgiving parade or watch them look at the tree as we put the lights and the ornaments on it,” he continued. “I’m a kid at heart. I still love that sort of thing.”
