Hundreds turned out to pay tribute to power broker Jerry Finkelstein, who made his fortune in business, real estate and media, and died in Manhattan on Wednesday at age 96. New York figures including his sons Andrew Stein and Jimmy Finkelstein spoke at Friday morning’s memorial at the Temple Emanu-El on the Upper East Side, along with Jerry’s grandchildren, Mario Cuomo, Rudy Giuliani and Bernie Nussbaum. Finkelstein, whose career spanned from chairman of manufacturer Struthers Wells to owner of the New York Law Journal, which he built into a formidable publication. In 1994, he founded The Hill. He was also chairman of All-State properties and in 1972 was named a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. One granddaughter told the packed house that during a recent visit with Jerry in the hospital, he said, “I need to get out of here and get back into the game.” Those attending included Russell Simmons, Patricia Duff, Jay Snyder, top attorney Richard Farley, and John and Margo Catsimatidis.
