She’s baaaack: Elaine Stritch honored by Liza Minnelli at Stella Adler gala

Having dramatically moved to Michigan in April after 71 years in town and as a longtime fixture at the Carlyle Hotel, cabaret legend Elaine Stritch, 88, was back in New York to be honored by the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Stritch was named the school’s honorary chair at the Stella by Starlight gala this week at Espace. In a touching salute, Liza Minnelli said she met Stritch as a teenager through her parents, Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, and she’s looked up to Stritch ever since. Guests included Stephen Sondheim, Bernadette Peters, Edward Albee, James Gandofini and Alec Baldwin. The gala benefited the Stella Adler Outreach Division, which provides acting training to low-income youth.
