Catherine Zeta-Jones steps out wearing wedding ring

Catherine Zeta-Jones stepped out on Sunday night looking stunning amid rumors of a marriage reconciliation with Michael Douglas.

The 44-year-old actress, still wearing her wedding ring, put her problems aside as she was honored by the New York Dance Alliance Foundation at NYU Skirball Center.

She turned up looking healthy and happy, wearing a plunging silver gown, with her mother Pat who she thanked in her acceptance speech for enrolling her in dance classes aged five.

Catherine said, “She took me to the Catholic Church round the corner…at five years old she takes me and says, ‘Please take her. The energy of this child I don’t know quite what to do, please take her.  Just take her for the hour and I’ll pay you.

“The hours she sat in that bloody cold church hall waiting for me, the hours she spent sewing on sequins. I had the best costumes I can’t tell you. Every time I looked at stage moms, I’d be like thanks mom for not being like that. The most important thing is I have a beautiful mother who guided me and encouraged me and was always there for me and never questioned if I’d win or if I’d lose or if I’d get it or I didn’t get it.

“Even when I was 9 years old, I said to my mother why didn’t you marry someone with red hair so I could play Annie. I love my father. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t have red hair.”

While personal questions about her marriage were banned, Catherine also talked about her kids Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, and her role in “Chicago.” She played Peggy Sawyer in “42nd Street” on the West End for two years when photography was banned. “I have nothing to show my kids so I have to do it in the kitchen. I have to get my tap shoes out and show my son Dylan, who is a great dancer, so is my daughter, that it actually happened.”

She added, “I’ve always said to my mom, you know what I think I was born in the wrong era mom. I think I should have been dating Gene Kelly…I should have been rehearsing on the lot. I shouldn’t be just reading lines on a lot, solely. I should be dancing and singing and choreography and rehearsals and when I had a chance to do that in ‘Chicago’ my dream was answered.”

It was recently revealed that Catherine and Michael Douglas, 69, are taking some time apart. But the pair, who wed in 2000, have not filed for divorce and he said at the Emmys that he hopes they can save their marriage.

He told reporters, “Catherine is great. She is doing wonderful, talked to her today [and] just got a lovely note from her.

“I’m very hopeful that we’re going to work things out.

“As I said we’re just taking a break, a couple of issues, sometimes you got to do that.”
