JAY-Z’s permit to party atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater was denied this week, but the rapper rocked Red Hook on Wednesday night. Jay-Z hosted a “secret” album release party for his “Magna Carta Holy Grail” at Brooklyn’s Liberty Warehouse, where 500 guests — including Nick Cannon, Timba-land, Busta Rhymes, nightlife gurus Noah Tepperberg and Richie Akiva and celeb chef Marc Forgione — got down. At midnight DJ Funkmaster Flex debuted the new single “Holy Grail,” featuring Justin Timberlake. The album was released yesterday via Samsung app. The DJ played the record in its entirety, and the crowd, along with Jay and wife Beyoncé, danced the night away. The free concert that Jay had planned to put on atop the Ed Sullivan Theater’s marquee on July 8 was canceled by the city due to safety concerns. Jay-Z last year celebrated his grandmother’s 85th birthday at the Liberty Warehouse venue.
