Sophisticated, hard-to-shock Parisians are amused by the latest ads for an extramarital dating Web site aimed at cheaters.
The ads for Victoria Milan (the French version of Ashley Madison) feature the image of Ségolène Royal, the first woman candidate for president of France, who lost to Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007.
“She is the Hillary Clinton of France,” an American in Paris told me. The lifelong Socialist was also the life partner, for 25 years, of France’s current president François Hollande and bore him four children.
The billboards of Royal all over Paris proclaim, “Unleash your passion, have an affair.”
Perhaps Hollande should have been featured instead: Reports have alleged that Royal ordered him out of the house in 2007 amid rumors he was having an affair with journalist Valérie Trierweiler, with whom he is now in a relationship.
