Blood Orange loses dog, apartment in Village fire

Dev Hynes, the musician known as Blood Orange, suffered the loss of his downtown apartment in a blaze on Monday that also destroyed all his possessions and killed his dog.

Hynes, who has written for a number of acts including Florence and the Machine and worked as a producer for Solange Knowles and Sky Ferreira, lived at 227 E. 11th St. in the East Village.

“Everything from my life is gone,” he revealed on Twitter Tuesday. “Last night, the unthinkable happened. My entire apt burnt down while I was out. I’ve lost everything I own, including scores, hard drives, clothes, sentimental items. Everything from my life is gone. My dog died in the fire. I will love you forever Cupid. I miss you.”

A publicist confirmed Hynes’ Twitter account. Music Web site Pitchfork last night reported that the mother of vocalist Samantha Urbani, who is Hynes’ girlfriend, has created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his loss.
