Kate Middleton scores field hockey goal

Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton showed off her field hockey skills today when she paid a surprise visit to London’s Olympic Park to meet the Team GB women’s hockey squad. The royal visit was to promote the upcoming summer Olympic Games in London.

The Duchess looked uncharacteristically casual — and very svelte – in a pair of salmon-colored jeans, a grey sweatshirt and sneakers. And she even hit the field to take a few shots at a goal.

Although she was a team field hockey captain at her high school, Marlborough College, the Duchess seemed anxious as cameras clicked away.

“This is going to be so embarrassing,” she said. “My brain thinks I can do all these wonderful things but my body just doesn’t play ball.”

The Duchess was not shy about running and lunging for the ball. As she took a swing, she laughed heartily, then covered her mouth in anticipation while watching her shot. It took her four attempts to score a goal.

“Wow, that was no pressure then,” the Duchess said, reports People. “I was determined to keep on going until I scored.”

With Prince William away in the Falkland Islands, the Duchess has made several appearances with other members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II. While the Duchess recently said that she was missing the Duke “terribly,” she also added, “I’ve got a dog that’s keeping me occupied. I’m getting a lot of ‘me time’ with the dog.”
