Jennifer Lawrence thinks that the televised demise of Kim Kardashian’s marriage is a first step towards the post-apocalyptic society of her new movie, “The Hunger Games.”

In “The Hunger Games,” 24 kids are chosen through a lottery every year to compete in a grisly televised battle where only one of them will come out alive. Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers herself to be a part of the competition when her younger sister is selected in the lottery. An acquaintance from school who once gave her family bread when they were hungry is another of the ill-fated chosen ones.

While the scenario of the film, and the book it is based on, sounds horrifying, Lawrence tells Parade that she can imagine a society where such a thing is permitted. In fact, she believes that we are already on our way.

Lawrence shames E! for airing the recent series “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” which showed in detail the unraveling of Kim Kardashian’s marriage to New Jersey Nets star Kris Humphries. Lawrence also appears to place blame on the Kardashian herself for allowing her pain to used as entertainment.

“I was watching the Kardashian girl getting divorced. That’s a tragedy for anyone, but they’re using it for entertainment, and we’re watching it,” says Lawrence. “The books hold up a terrible kind of mirror: This is what our society could be like if we became desensitized to trauma and to each other’s pain.”

While “The Hunger Games” is expected to be as popular a film franchise as “The Twilight Saga,” Lawrence says that she is still nervous for the movie to open in theaters on March 23.

“I’m always nervous,” she said. “I always think, ‘This is going to be the end of my career. I’m going to have to go back to school and nobody’s ever going to want to see me again.’”
