NBC will this morning officially name Savannah Guthrie as new co-host of the “Today” show, sources said, replacing Ann Curry. But unlike Curry’s tearful on-air goodbye yesterday morning, sources say the network won’t announce the news on-air. Instead, sources told us NBC will send a statement to the press “sometime during the day, after the show has aired.” We’re told Guthrie finalized her contract with NBC early in the week, prior to Curry’s announcement yesterday, and the promotion was supported by “every high-level executive at NBC.” Guthrie will take the seat next to Matt Lauer permanently, but also remain chief legal analyst for NBC News. An NBC rep had no comment.
