Sorkin squawks over Greg Smith interview

CNBC finance whiz Andrew Ross Sorkin flipped when he learned cable colleague Maria Bartirom
o had landed the network’s interview with “Why I Left Goldman Sachs” author Greg Smith this week. “Squawk Box” anchor Sorkin “went into overdrive” a source says, “to wrestle away the interview for himself when he found out Maria was going to do it.” Our source added that Sorkin wanted Smith to “cancel the interview with Maria and give it to him,” and he claimed CNBC brass wanted him to conduct the chat rather than Bartiromo on “Closing Bell.” Sorkin slammed Smith’s book last week on air saying, “It’s boring” and “doesn’t say anything particularly revelatory.” He added Smith “might have conned the New York Times a little bit for running [his] op-ed” and “may have conned ‘60 Minutes.’ ” Asked to comment, a CNBC rep sniffed, “When you are first in business worldwide interviewing more than 1,000 people a week, there is more than enough opportunity for our stellar stable of superstars.”
