Top music talent manager Scooter Braun teamed up with his brother AdamBraun and superstar Usher to raise $1.6 million to build schools around the world. Adam founded nonprofit Pencils of Promise in 2008 to build one school in Laos, but after quitting his job at Bain & Co. has gone on to build more than 75 schools in Laos, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Scooter — who manages Justin Bieber, “Gangnam Style” sensation Psy and new artist Tori Kelly — told us Thursday’s Pencils of Promise gala at Guastavino’s was a huge success, with Usher buying a puppy for $12,000 and two bidders paying a total of $130,000 for dance lessons from the star. Braun said, “Last year Usher lost out on the dog, but he won this year. Then he offered private dance lessons for three hours, which raised enough to build five schools.” Of Kelly, who performed at the gala, he said, “She blew the house down.” And of Psy, Braun added, “He’s having a blast. Our goal was to make history, which we did, then everything after that is just fun. And on Halloween you’ll see lots of blue tuxedos.”
