Continuing his comeback — or what Andrew Dice Clay says he prefers to call “a resurgence” — there’s buzz the comic known as the Dice Man could be nominated as Best Supporting Actor at next year’s Oscars. Clay’s currently co-starring in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” and holds his own with heavy-hitting thespians Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins. When Allen approached Clay for the role, he thought his manager was playing a joke on him. Then again, Oscar buzz has been pretty bleak so far this year except for “Jasmine,” “Before Midnight” (also from Sony Pictures Classics) and “Fruitvale Station” prior to a fall glut of serious films. Next up in awards fodder will be Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” Aug. 16.
