Star Jones honors Judy Smith, inspiration for ‘Scandal’ character Olivia Pope

Even former legal eagle Star Jones counts on Washington, DC, fixer Judy Smith — the inspiration for Kerry Washington’s character Olivia Pope on ABC series “Scandal” — as her go-to gal when she’s in a bind. “I’ve known her for 20 years,” Jones told a crowd that included “CSI: NY” actor Hill Harper, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Ariel Meredith and CBS newsman Maurice DuBois at the International Urban Technology Center gala at Capitale. Of the crisis-management whiz, Jones added, “I’ve got her number on speed dial . . . If I listened to her advice more often, I wouldn’t have gotten into half the trouble I’m in.” Smith, who was honored at the event, has repped Monica Lewinsky and, as Jones’ diplomatically described another client, “a certain vice president when he . . . had a shooting incident with a friend,” referring to Dick Cheney.
