As we speak, there’s the Lower East Side Film Festival. Judges include Rebecca Miller. She’s Arthur Miller’s daughter. Daniel Day-Lewis’ wife. Also a Sundance winning writer and director.

“This small festival began three years ago,” Rebecca said. “I’m no great expert, but I support really young people doing low-budget filmmaking. It’s wonderful homemade stuff. It’s chutzpah.

“I personally critique 18 films, although there’s more. I look for a genuine authentic voice. Can be surreal or naturalistic. Style doesn’t matter.

“I’m just trying to help them. Who knows where they’ll be in 10 to 15 years? With barely enough money to keep them going, it really depends on the response. Sometimes they show in drive-in movies.”

Other than helping mankind, what else she doing?

“Farrar Straus Giroux is publishing my book ‘Jacob’s Folly.’ It’s fiction. A contemporary rollicking story, dealing with a volunteer fireman, about a Jewish girl living on Long Island. It’s based on novels floating around in my head.

“I write every day. Coffee immediately. After that, I work each morning after everyone’s off to school. I break about one then look around for a little extra breakfast. I write four hours. Kids come home at 4. When you’re alone, immersed in work, writing, without the joy of family, and you’re self motivated, it’s a lonely job.”

Notable quotes

A Movie industry party. Julia Garner from “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” At the rear of her dress, the bra was clearly, deliberately visible . . . Katie Chang from “The Bling Ring”: “I’ve got no jewelry to steal, but if anyone’s robbed tonight, maybe I’ll get somebody else’s stuff back.”. . . Mickey Sumner from “Frances Ha” accompanied her elegant black sheath with flats that looked like men’s shoes . . . And an older actress about a pirouetting new young starlet: “Well, at least she’s blond.” Yawned her friend: “Yeah, like all the rest of Hollywood.”

Who is out

June 27 Hbo shows filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ “The Out List.” A cross-section of America’s LBGT gay life. Professional and personal, heart-wrenching and triumphant interviews from Neil Patrick Harris, athlete Wade Davis, pol Christine Quinn, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. They speak of struggles, triumphs and what was once considered their queer experience. Not your taste? OK this summer HBO also does a Sarah Silverman comedy hour.

Annie, get your movie

Li’l Orphan Annie by now must be 112. Forget “Tomorrow tomorrow.” We’re talking today today. Again on Broadway. Again shrieking in a movie with Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks, age 9 Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis is the kid, and now looks like maybe Sandra Bullock as Miss Hannigan. Alright already with ol’ orphan Annie.

Clinton update

HILLARY. First, Benghazi. Next, State Department sex. Efforts to derail her presidential campaign won’t stop. Next she’ll be accused of bleaching her hair.

More. William Jefferson saying Obummer doesn’t know his assertions from a hole in the ground in terms of Syria? Note the Clintons taking one giant step away from Obummer.

Laughs below

The Oscars’ comedy writer Bruce Vilanch did stand-up at 54 Below. Wearing an “I dumped Adele” T-shirt, he threw blue-state stuff like: “There was a radio program on miserable lousy bitches. And Michele Bachmann came on.”. . . Also, “Somebody asked if TV’s porno channels are disabled. I said, ‘No. They walk fine.’ ”

Not perfect

So this stupid lady had a key in one hand, a letter in the other. She mailed the key and flushed the letter in the toilet. And how do I know this stupid lady did that? Because I am that stupid lady.

Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
