Art Garfunkel performed an intimate acoustic set recently on Long Island for special invited guests — but the concert descended into drama when one audience member was taken out on a stretcher and another offended the singer by fiddling with his phone. The 71-year-old Simon & Garfunkel star performed “An Intimate Rehearsal” at the Great Neck Arts Center on June 7 and 8. A source tells us that a woman on the first night “had to be wheeled out on a stretcher after passing out from excitement. Seems ‘The Sounds of Silence’ singer still makes the girls swoon.” The source also said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, who was sitting in the front row, irked Garfunkel by fiddling with his phone when it started buzzing during one of his songs. The witness reports, “Art stormed off stage, only to return 10 minutes later to finish his set when Jon apologized.” A Kaiman rep said, “Art Garfunkel was brilliant and gracious, and his music sounds better without a buzzing cellphone.” A rep for Garfunkel didn’t get back to us.
