RiRi flies in tattooists to fix tribal ink done with chisel, mallet

Rihanna flew artists from New York’s Bang Bang Tattoo, Keith McCurdy and Cally Jo, to the Dominican Republic to update the traditional Maori tattoo she had done with chisel, ink and a mallet a few weeks ago in New Zealand and an older tattoo on the same hand.

“We designed something that plays over the knuckles and wrist, and just tried to incorporate it with what was done before,” McCurdy, who tattooed Rihanna on Monday, told us. “We blended what used to be there into a more decorative pattern. We tried to make it look like jewelry, a bit like a henna tattoo.”

McCurdy says Rihanna’s hand was bruised from the session but the singer was fine. McCurdy has also inked Adele, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.
