Craig plays the party pooper

Daniel Craig kept the media at bay at Sunday night’s opening of “Betrayal” at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

“There was no red carpet, and no interviews and no press at the party at the Bowery Hotel,” one insider told me. “Daniel Craig’s decision.”

Co-starring Craig and his wife, Rachel Weisz, and with Mike Nichols directing, the revival of the Harold Pinter play drew Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, Julia Roberts, Julie Andrews, Candice Bergen, Bobby Cannavale and Ian McKellen.

Such star power had security on high alert. When a person of indeterminate gender approached Craig at the Bowery, three security guys jumped in and strongly escorted the fan away as if he or she were a suspicious Barneys shopper.

Said my source, “Not cool at a Broadway opening.”
