Bill Bratton could be climbing over Philip Banks III for the top spot in the race to become the next NYPD commissioner.
I reported several weeks ago that the well-liked Banks, the highest-ranking uniformed officer on the force as chief of department, would get the job.
But Bratton — who has run the police departments in Boston, New York and Los Angeles — has been campaigning effectively for the job and mustering support from various quarters.
Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane, had dinner with the former commish and his wife, Rikki Klieman, on Friday night at Convivum Osteria in Park Slope.
That’s the sort of meeting people have when they are planning to work together. No word on whether de Blasio has dined with Banks or the third candidate, Rafael Piñeiro, the NYPD’s first deputy commissioner.
