After Russell Brand’s attempt at guest-editing the New Statesman ended in some embarrassment, so has his relationship with British society beauty Jemima Khan, we’re told.
Around the time it was announced the tight-leather trouser-wearing Brit would be editing the lofty title, the loquacious lothario was seen strolling arm-in-arm in New York with elegant heiress Khan, an associate editor of the political magazine. But Brand’s New Statesman issue, complete with a 4,500-word essay on revolution in which he even quoted Sophocles, was met with some head-scratching.
Historian Tim Stanley wrote in the UK Telegraph of Brand’s opus, “What follows is a sequence of dumb statements that read like they come from the mouth of an 18-year-old politics student sitting stoned on a bean bag and trying to impress a girl into bed . . . When you publish an essay like this in a publication as august as the New Statesman, you should expect to be taken seriously — and these ideas are not serious.”
Sadly, neither was his relationship with Khan, which a source says is “already over,” explaining that Brand’s louche lifestyle, which horrified her well-to-do friends, was “far too freewheeling.”
